Starfield News October 2026: Seamless Landing Mod, Switch 2 Rumors & 2027 Starborn Content

No new Starfield patch in October 2026. Here is the Seamless Landing mod, the Switch 2 port rumours, Starfield 2 comments and what Bethesda has confirmed for 2027.

Last verified: October 24, 2026 · Current patch: 1.16.244 · Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5

October has been quiet on the patch front but busy everywhere else. A fan-made mod is taking on Starfield’s loading screens, the rumoured Switch 2 port looks to be in trouble, and Bethesda’s 2027 Starborn content is still the next confirmed milestone. Here’s everything that matters, and what it means for your current playthrough.

Starfield News October 2026 at a Glance

  • New patch? No. 1.16.244 (June 11, 2026) is still the latest update.
  • Biggest story: the Seamless Landing mod, which removes the planet landing loading screen. It is still a work in progress.
  • Switch 2 port: never officially announced, and insiders now say it has hit major development problems.
  • Next official content: new Starborn content in 2027, with no date or price yet.
  • Your builds: nothing has changed since June, so current builds, gear and farming routes still work.

Is There a New Starfield Update in October 2026?

No. The last patch was 1.16.244 on June 11, 2026, a stability update for the base game and the Terran Armada DLC. It fixed a freeze that could happen while travelling across planet surfaces, plus issues with Major Incursions, Terran black boxes and Incursion map icons. Bethesda has not announced or teased another patch since, so the game is effectively in a maintenance phase.

Seamless Landing Mod Removes the Landing Loading Screen

The most talked-about Starfield story this month is Seamless Landing, a mod by Frederik Wessberg that tackles one of the game’s most common complaints: the cutscene and loading screen every time you land on a planet. PC Gamer covered the latest work-in-progress footage on October 12.

Based on what has been shown so far, the finished mod will:

  • Replace the landing animation and loading screen with a continuous descent through the atmosphere.
  • Render planets as detailed 3D models built from Starfield’s own biome, climate and surface data, instead of flat textures.
  • Let you fly manually in low orbit or use autopilot, and walk around your ship during the descent.
  • Let you land anywhere, including on water.
  • Hide the final switch between game areas behind cloud cover while assets load in the background.

Release date: none yet. Wessberg plans to release it for free on Nexus Mods once it’s finished, which means PC. It joins other community efforts such as Seamless Grav Jumps and Seamless Planet Takeoffs. Until it ships, treat it as a preview, not something you can install today.

Starfield Switch 2 Port Reportedly in Trouble

Bethesda has never officially announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Starfield, but rumours about one have been around since 2025. In mid-October, insider NateTheHate said the port had run into major development problems and was unlikely to move forward. Shinobi602 had earlier reported internal delays and the possibility of the project being shelved.

Bethesda and Microsoft have not commented, so none of this is confirmed. If you play on PC, Xbox or PS5, nothing changes for you.

Will There Be a Starfield 2?

In September, former Bethesda designer Kurt Kuhlmann said in interviews that he would be very surprised to see a Starfield sequel, because the first game wasn’t successful enough to justify one. He also described Starfield as a bigger project than the studio was used to. Kuhlmann left Bethesda earlier this year and is no longer involved, so this is one ex-developer’s view rather than an official statement.

Bethesda’s official line hasn’t changed since July: “Starfield remains an important part of our future.”

What Bethesda Has Confirmed for 2027

  • New Starborn content in 2027. Announced on July 17, 2026. No date, price or scope yet.
  • More updates. Bethesda says it will keep adding stories, gameplay changes and updates.
  • 17 million players. Bethesda’s latest player figure, which includes Xbox Game Pass players and isn’t a sales number.

What This Means for Your Playthrough

Because there have been no balance changes since June, everything in our Starfield builds and the build tier list is still current. If you’re planning around the 2027 Starborn content, a powers-focused character is the safest bet. The Starborn build and our build strategy guide are good places to start.
