Rankings are based on damage ceiling, survivability across all content, skill investment efficiency, and endgame viability. Builds are tested on max difficulty in the Settled Systems and UC Vanguard NG+ missions.

Good builds that require more investment or shine only in specific situations. Still viable for all content.

Medicine rank 4 + Wellness + Robotics. Near-immortal sustain but low damage ceiling.

Melee Juggernaut
Martial Arts rank 4 + Fitness + Combat stims. High-risk, high-reward close-quarters destroyer.

Security rank 4 + Robotics + Persuasion. Lockpick everything, turn robots against enemies, non-lethal options.

🟠 C-Tier & Below — Situational

These builds work but require specific playstyles or have fundamental gaps that better builds avoid.

Pure Unarmed
Fists only with Martial Arts maxed. Meme build but surprisingly viable early game.
Falls off hard at level 40+ when enemies get ranged capabilities and higher HP pools.
C
Explosives Specialist
Demolitions + Grenadier. Fun chaos but resource-intensive and ammo-dependent.
Credit cost for grenades makes this unsustainable without Commerce investment. Still a blast (literally).
D
Pacifist Run
Zero combat kills. Persuasion, stealth, and running. Extremely challenging but technically completable.
Not a recommended build but an incredible challenge. For completionists only.
📌 Veteran Tip: The tier list is a guideline, not a rulebook. Starfield’s skill system is flexible enough that any build can complete all content. S-tier builds are just more efficient — not more fun. Pick the playstyle that resonates with you and then optimize within that archetype.

Patch 1.16.236 Changes

The Free Lanes update shook up the meta significantly:

  • Stealth builds — Concealment skill got a significant detection radius reduction. Stealth Assassin bumped to S tier.
  • Particle Beams — 15% damage increase across all particle beam weapons. Particle Sniper builds now lead all DPS charts.
  • Ship combat — New Cruise Mode mechanics change the flow of dogfighting. Ship Combat Ace build now leverages this for massive advantage.
  • Melee — Minor stamina cost adjustments. Juggernaut builds unaffected but no longer feel as punishing on power attacks.
