- Latest patch: 1.16.244, released June 11, 2026 (stability, gameplay and UI fixes).
- Last content update: Free Lanes + Terran Armada DLC, April 7, 2026 (also the PS5 launch).
- Next confirmed content: new Starborn content in 2027. No date, price or scope announced yet.

Is There a New Starfield Update in October 2026?
No. As of October 12, 2026 there has been no new patch since 1.16.244 in June. Starfield is in a maintenance phase: the systems added in April (X-Tech, Tier 4 Legendaries, Free Lanes cruise mode) are unchanged, so current builds and farming routes still work exactly as they did over the summer.
Bethesda marked the game’s third anniversary on September 6, 2026 with a look back at three years of updates, but did not announce a new patch or dated content.

What Bethesda Has Confirmed for the Future
In July 2026 Bethesda said Starfield “remains an important part of our future” and confirmed three things:
- New Starborn content in 2027. Nothing official yet on whether it is a paid expansion like Shattered Space or Terran Armada, or a free update.
- New stories and targeted gameplay improvements before then, with no dates.
- Additional updates, which so far have meant stability patches.
Our read: expect the occasional hotfix through the rest of 2026, with the next big content push tied to the 2027 Starborn reveal. If you want to be ready for anything Starborn-related, now is a good time to finish temples and start stacking Quantum Essence. Our Starborn powers guide and NG+ guide cover the full route.
Current Meta (October 2026)
Because nothing has changed since June, the meta is stable. The short version:
- Builds: stealth sniper and particle-beam builds still top our build tier list. See best character builds for full skill orders.
- Weapons: X-Tech upgrades mean a well-rolled common weapon can now beat many uniques. Check the best weapons tier list and the X-Tech & Tier 4 Legendary guide.
- Ships: ship optimization via X-Tech keeps the top hulls in the same order as our ship tier list.
- Credits: the routes in our credits farming guide still work. The broken vendor trick is not what most videos claim.
Best Things to Do in Starfield Right Now
- Play the Terran Armada story if you skipped it in April.
- Farm X-Tech and re-roll for Tier 4 Legendary effects.
- Use Free Lanes cruise mode to explore the new encounters and Anchorpoint Station.
- Plan a new character with our skill planner or design a ship in the ship builder.
- Try a fresh run with the best mods for PC, Xbox and PS5.
